Events Past and Events Future
Events Past
We started with small steps – our monthly coffee mornings have been held on the fourth Tuesday of each month (not December!) since July 2016. The theme of coffee, cake and conversation has become an expected event with residents, and a lot of people make arrangements to meet friends here.
The Events team have organised many other events each year – including Quiz Nights with Curry, Sea Shanties with Fish & Chips, Barn Dances with Ploughman's, Garden Walkabouts, Fashion Shows, Afternoon Teas, Beetle Drives, Bridge Drive ...
Supporters outside the events team have organised Strawberry Lunches, Concerts in the Church, and Quilting Exhibitions; others have sold their craft items and donated proceeds from the sales.
The fundraising events have become very popular, and each year we are doing more to reduce isolation in the community by involving more people in more events. Tickets are often sold out within days of being released – this has proven that organised community social events are well received and much–needed.
One of our residents offered to organise a Garden Walkabout, where residents opened their gardens to the public, sold plants, refreshments and ice cream! This was very popular, and has become a well–supported event which has grown year on year. Alverstoke Garden Walkabout is taking a break this year, but will return bigger and better for 2025!
Events Future
Each year new volunteers are coming forward to get involved with the events – making cakes, serving refreshments, organising the Garden Walkabout, a Quiz, a Concert. The level of community involvement in fundraising is evidence of their support for this project.
